Samsung's Galaxy A51 2020 Tested

Awesome Is For Everyone

Samsung's Galaxy A51 has been on the market throughout Europe from early Feb and handset went on sale in the United States during April 2020 and sells for £329/$399.99.

With the smartphone middle range segment more competitive than ever, we believed it is time to review an example of a device that will likely sell in large numbers over the world, Samsung’s Galaxy A51. With a restrained but good looking design, the A51 has quadruple rear cameras, an amoled screen with a centrally set selfie cam, as well as Samsung's glasstastick back panel.

Thoughts On The A51's Speed And Performance

First Thoughts Of Speed

Samsung's Galaxy A51's Super Amoled display is good as you expect from this company}, the colours appear very much bright with the phone's viewing planes being superb. And with not a great deal to whine about and yet those folks always have something, other than it’s a bit dim (but it's still legible) in direct sunlight and not good for viewing content on, even with the contrast at 100%.

And here is where reviewing top of the line smartphones such as OPPO’s Find X2 Pro 5G the OnePlus 8 is not helpful in achieving a balanced view of a middle range handset such as the Galaxy A51.
No mistaking that, this phone is slow upon occasion and I was not sure whether the device if it had felt my contact when attempting to open one of the apps or to use the unit.
The Galaxy A51's Exynos 9611 CPU is simply not able to match up to the top of the range processor in any way, and moving away from flagship chipset to the latter chips is a great page to read slap to the face then you realise that this handset is just a mid-range device and these limitations need to be made.

As for the fingerprint scanner, I'll just say that Samsung should have rather put it in the rear panel because I only achieved a success about 50% when trying to unlock the phone then having to end up entering the pin code.
This is an amount of hesitation we thankfully have not experienced for a few years, even on simple devices that can be bought for only £140.

Our Initial Thoughts On Styling

With its glass-ticky rear panel, the Galaxy A51 does not feel or look like it is a mid-range device, the plastic construction feels forgiving in your grasp because there are no sharp edges you can sometimes see with smartphones that have rear panels constructed out of glass that has been toughened.
This design characteristic on the rear paneling is delightful and this adds some character to the Galaxy A51. And the branding on cheaper phones is just a touch overdone at times, Samsung's logo is discretely used.
You will notice a front camera setup that, for whatever reason, is made even prominent by what seems to be a metal ring that draws gaze.
Audio enthusiasts are sure to be happy in the fact that there's an sound jack on the lower edge, with the Type-C port as well as the speaker's chamber.
The top of the phone there is a microphone and on the right edge has the power button and volume adjuster and the SIM tray on the reverse side of the handset.
This is a tidy if, inoffensive unit that slides nicely into a normal pocket easily.

The Battery

With a typical daily duty, the 2020 A51 indeed will get through this with about 10% extra at midnight, yet there was some cases when it battery charging was needed during the evening following heavier usage.
The quick charging lets the phone to get charged from 0-100% over a 2 hour period, with a quick charger taking the handset up to one third full, and this is just passable but not really great with the price point.
